| TWO LOCALS TO BE RECOGNIZED
FOR SERVICE
Sacramento, CA – February 26, 2004 –
Local, state and federal elected and appointed officials and other
dignitaries will gather this coming Saturday, February 28, 2004
at the Capital Plaza Holiday Inn to honor two of Sacramento’s
Latino leaders. Louise A. Perez and Rosendo Garcia will be honored
for their dedication and leadership abilities and for guiding one
of Sacramento’s oldest community based agencies, the Community
Resource Project, Incorporated which has been in existence for well
over 34 years.
Louise A. Perez a long time community activist in the areas of
education and social services will be awarded the ADELANTE Eagle
Award for her many years of service to CRP and for her advocacy
in the area of education. Mrs. Perez who served as the Sacramento
Unified School District’s Trustee and Chairperson, also served
as the California School Board Association President during her
tenure in the education arena. As Executive Director for the Community
Resource Project, Incorporated of Sacramento, Mrs. Perez has taken
the agency to new fiscal acquisition heights and today the agency
is considered to be one of California’s most successful and
largest when it comes to serving communities at large in the areas
of housing, health, social services, education and energy.
Rosendo Garcia, an education supervisor at California State University,
Sacramento’s School of Education will be honored and awarded
the ADELANTE Award for his dedicated service to the Latino community
and for his 13 years of service as the Chairman of the Board to
the Community Resource Project. Mr. Garcia is also actively involved
in the development of educational programs for farm worker families
and is in the process of opening Galt’s first long distance
learning program being sponsored by the United States Department
of Agriculture. Garcia’s other involvement range from actively
being involved in the rural communities of Galt, Woodland and Oroville
where large concentrations of farm worker families reside.
The award being bestowed to both of these individuals symbolizes
commitment, solidarity, and dedication to not only the Latino community
but to all who are in need of help. Perez and Garcia will join the
ranks of past recipients of the Eagle Award, people like Cesar Chavez,
Congressman Joe Baca who will be attending the event that evening,
and Leamon King, Olympic Gold Medalist.
Dignitaries from as far away from Washington, D.C., to the Central
Valley and Southern California will be in attendance to celebrate
and give recognition to these two individuals. Those wishing to
